Harvest Party at Avila Beach

Harvest Party at Avila Beach

A first-class, beachside harvest party is just around the corner.   The exceptional food and wine festival, Harvest on the Coast, will take place at Avila Beach and numerous wineries on November 4th and 5th.

On Saturday, November 4th, the Grand Tasting and Wine Auction will be held at the picturesque Avila Beach Resort.  Over 50 wineries will provide guests with sips of handcrafted wine and local restaurants will provide tempting treats.  The purchase of an early admission extends even more perks.  Exclusive library, large format and reserve wines will only be poured during this early entry first hour.

In addition, both the silent and live auction will offer a myriad of rare wines, destination adventures and culinary experiences.

On November 5th, participate in Surf’s Up Sunday.  With your Saturday wristband and wineglass, travel to San Luis Obispo Wine Country tasting rooms.  You will enjoy free tastings and specials on wine and live music.

To give you a sip and taste of Harvest on the Coast let me show you our experience from last year.

As we checked in we could see the sparkling glasses were ready……

and the beautiful setting was empty, only for a moment, before the attendees made entry.

On a cool day, for that matter, any day, there is nothing better than a bowl of crab bisque from the Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach.  On their menu is the perfect description: “rich and creamy crab and sherry puree, with a hint of cayenne.”  Needless to say, they are one of our first stops.

Another soup we discovered from Adelina’s Bistro, in Nipomo, was a Fall Squash Soup.  It was made with cider and toasted pepitas.

New to us was the Oyster Loft, an upscale restaurant in Pismo Beach.  They offer a wide variety of oysters.   In looking at their broad menu, we feel it should soon be on our itinerary at dinner time.  Also, it appears they have an interesting happy hour.

We have yet to visit Fromagerie Sophie in San Luis Obispo, but we have certainly run into her creative cheese displays at other events and tasting rooms.  If you are a cheese lover, you are sure to love Sophie.

Another stop, while in San Luis Obispo, should be the restaurant Luna Red.  One can always rely on them to think outside the box and create delicious items with a clever combination of ingredients.  Today they were serving a mouth-watering octopus ceviche with apple and pickled onion.

Aer Lingus was one of the event sponsors.

Representing Ireland was Kerrygold.  No doubt most people know their Dubliner cheese brand, but did you realize they also make so many other yummy types?  And don’t forget about Kerrygold butter.

We could not have an event without pizza being represented.  Today it was New York style from Pizza La Nova in San Luis Obispo.  I wish they had a branch in the Santa Ynez Valley!

Of course a major part of eating the superb food was being able to pair it with unending wine.  Smiling faces  from Edna Valley Vineyard encouraged us to try their Reserve Syrah and Pinot Noir.

Two wineries which were new to us were Silverhorse………

and Verdad.  The latter specializes in Spanish varietals.

We had browsed the silent auction and the live auction was about to begin.  The perfect opportunity to sit and listen for the perfect item on which to bid.

Harvest on the Coast is always a stupendous event!  There is no better way  to immerse yourself in the fall season than to spend the day in Avila Beach.  It is time to purchase tickets and definitely worth buying the early admission.  Remember the purchase of this tickets gives you a whole day of free tastings on Sunday.  Click on the links below for further information.
