About Us

Traveling has always been a featured item on the life menu of Ken Fitzpatrick and Elizabeth Reed.  Their travel had been independent of one another prior to the mid 90’s.  They had extensively explored exotic places and, over the years, cooked, drank and ate everything imaginable.  Once they met they became more serious about exploring their love of food, wine and the adventures that come with it.

Ken Fitzpatrick grew up in Boston and he holds a degree in business from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  His finance background took him to Wall Street and the sophisticated New York restaurants.  A new professional opportunity involved a move across the country.   Of course, never losing his love of lobster and New England seafood, he  found himself in the fine dining establishments of San Francisco.  It was here he began to explore the wines of Napa and Sonoma. Whether skiing in Switzerland, swimming in Barbados or sipping the wines of New Zealand,  he was constantly on the look-out for a new drink or dish to pair it with.  After another professional move to Santa Barbara he became very active in a wine group.  He then began to pursue learning about the wines that were just 30 miles north of the city, in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Elizabeth Reed grew up in Flint, Michigan and holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. From an early age she learned to make family recipes passed down from her father’s birthplace of Cornwall, England.  Whenever a cooking class opportunity appeared she would quickly enroll.  Traveling and accumulating cookbooks was always a priority.  She lived briefly in Afghanistan and for a number of years in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Santa Barbara, California.  Since 2012 she has live just north of Santa Barbara in the wine country of the Santa Ynez Valley.   Throughout her life, wide ranging adventures have taken her far beyond Europe to Nepal, Russia, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Australia, Tasmania, Fiji and many other exotic destinations.

It was after Ken and Elizabeth met that their shared interest in food and wine took a direction of its own.  It began with the idea of writing a cookbook of recipes related to winemakers.  This evolved into a blog as they journeyed to wine destinations.  They felt the Central Coast of California should be shared with the world.  They began to gather information, write, photograph and attend wine and food related events.  They were hooked!

The next step was to bring their favorite winemakers to the Four Seasons Resort the Biltmore in Santa Barbara and invite friends for a wine dinner.  The winemaker comes to the hotel a month before the dinner.  He meets with the world renowned chefs, Ken and Elizabeth.  The menu is planned through a reverse pairing session and lively discussion.  To accomplish this the wine is selected and then the decision is made on the food.  They now have a list of over 250 people to whom they extend invitations.  The popular dinners have been written up and have been referred to as “Santa Barbara’s Best Supper Club.”  The reverse pairing concept has also been explained in, “A Reverse Wine Pairing Dinner.”  The invitations are in high demand and fill up quickly.

Today they are on a constant quest looking for the traditional, as well as  newest, and most interesting in hotels, destinations, food, wines and cocktails.  Now, living in the Santa Ynez Valley, they have the superb wineries at their doorstep.  There is not a week that passes without finding a new wine event or, having the opportunity to meet and talk to a new winemaker.  They have found unending “safaris” on which they can taste, sip and enjoy.
